Laying Hens

We keep a flock of free range layers on a rotational pasture system. Our girls are primarily Hyline Browns, a type of Red Sex Link, with some other eclectic breeds sprinkled in for egg color variety — Ameraucana, Welsummer, Olive Egger, Marans, Orpington, and Barred Rock.

To help prevent loss from birds of prey, the hens share their ranging space with our small flock of Emden geese, whose large size act as a deterrent for hawks.
